PLEASANTVILLE - Collins-Maxwell’s Jacob Pierick just missed qualifying for state after placing third at the Class 1A district wrestling meet in Pleasantville Saturday.

Pierick went 1-1 at 120 pounds on Saturday.

In the semifinals Pierick lost by technical fall to Jarryn Stephens of East Union-Afton, 17-1. He came back to edge Ogden’s Dominic Degeneffe by a 2-1 decision in the third-place match, but didn’t get a wrestleback.

“It didn’t go as we hoped, but he wrestled well,” Collins-Maxwell head coach Mike Leslie said. “He was able to finish strong with hopes of getting a wrestleback, but it didn’t happen. With a sectional championship and a third-place district finish that should give him a lot of confidence going into his senior season.”

Pierick ended the season with a 24-14 record.

Final team scores: 1. Martensdale St. Marys 85 points, 2. Mount Ayr 78, 3. I-35 76.5, 4. (tie) Ogden and Pleasantville 53, 6. (tie) Colfax-Mingo and South Hamilton 47, 8. SEW/LS/MD 45, 9. Wayne 44, 10. Moravia 26, 11. East Union 27.5, 12. Lynnville-Sully 9, 13. Collins-Maxwell 8, 14. Baxter 0.
