COLLINS - The Collins-Maxwell girls’ basketball team controlled the first half and cruised the rest of the way against GMG in a 50-33 victory over the Wolverines during the opening round of Class 1A regional play Feb. 13.


The Spartans led by nine points after the first quarter and went up 33-19 at the break. They increased their lead to 16 points after three quarters to sew up the win, improving to 18-4 heading into the regional quarterfinals.


Collins-Maxwell shot 45 percent from the field. The Spartans made 4 of 10 3-pointers and 10 of 18 free throws.


Reagan Franzen recorded another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and she added five assists, one steal and one block to pace Collins-Maxwell. Alexis Houge put up 13 points, three rebounds and two assists, Ella Kahler drained two 3-pointers and finished with eight points, three steals, two assists and a block and Kenzi Wierson had six points, four rebounds and two assists.


Trinity Stover added four points and three rebounds, Brooke Christie three points and assists apiece, Marissa Boege two points and Emma Kahler three steals and two assists.

CONRAD - Free throws paid off for Collins-Maxwell in a 38-37 victory over BCLUW to close out the regular season Feb. 10.


The Spartans got half their production from the line and did just enough on defense to hold off the Comets and finish the regular season at 17-4.


Collins-Maxwell led 21-15 at the half. BCLUW moved in front 29-27 after three quarters, but the Spartans answered by holding the Comets to eight points over the final eight minutes, giving them just enough room to come out on top.


Trinity Stover led Collins-Maxwell’s 19 of 25 effort at the line. She went 9 of 11 and finished with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists.


“Trinity played her best basketball of the season offensively,” Collins-Maxwell head coach Justin Flaws said. “She was our spark plug the whole night. She stepped up in a huge way the last two weeks of the season. She’s been phenomenal defensively as well, taking on huge responsibility the final five games.”


Reagan Franzen also had 11 points and she pulled down 10 rebounds for Collins-Maxwell. Alexis Houge finished with nine points and three rebounds, Kenzi Wierson four points and five boards and Brooke Christie three points and one steal.


Emma Kahler had three assists and two steals and Emma Kahler one steal for Colo-NESCO.


BCLUW fell to 14-8. Chloe Walters paced the Comets with 13 points and four rebounds and Allison Engle added nine points, two assists and two steals.
