HUXLEY - The Ballard boys’ basketball team pounded Perry into submission in the first half on its way to an 86-36 victory over the Bluejays Friday.


Ballard put up 30 points in the first quarter and outscored Perry 57-16 over the first 16 minutes of play. The Bombers shot 56 percent from the field with 20 assists on 31 field goals and they made 14 of 27 3-pointers.


Ballard also recorded 40 rebounds, seven steals and four blocks as a team to win its fourth in a row and improve to 12-5 overall and 10-1 in the Raccoon River Conference.


Everybody got involved in the victory for Ballard. The Bombers had 14 players enter the scoring column, six score at least eight points, eight pull down at least three rebounds and seven hand out at least two assists.


Ashton Hermann was a perfect 7 of 7 from the field with four 3-pointers in recording 18 points, three steals and two assists for Ballard. Nic Edwards had 11 points, five rebounds and two assists off the bench.


Isaiah Peasley hit three 3-pointers and netted nine points and Connor Drew, Mason Murphy and Sam Petersen scored eight points apiece. Drew also had seven rebounds and two assists, Peasley two assists, Murphy one assist and Petersen one assist and rebound apiece.


Kyler Watson tallied five points, four rebounds and a block and Kale Krogh five points, three boards, two steals and a block.


Kade Reinertson, Drake Wunder, Jacob Ross and Bryce Haessig each scored two points and Kade Miller put one point on the board. Reinertson also delivered two rebounds, an assist and a steal, Wunder one assist and rebound apiece, Ross two rebounds and one assist, Haessig four rebounds and Miller three rebounds, two blocks and an assist.


Colby Calvert tacked on three rebounds and two assists.

HUXLEY - Ballard caused a lot of havoc on defense in posting a 57-36 victory over Carlisle on senior night Feb. 4.


The Bombers had 13 steals and kept Carlisle in check shooting the ball. The Bombers dominated the start to each half, taking a 19-7 lead out of the gate and outscoring the Wildcats 13-4 in the third quarter to build a huge lead.


“We just tried to focus on the defensive end of the ball,” Bomber point guard Mason Murphy said. “We came out and played well.”


Ashton Hermann and Connor Drew both came up with four steals apiece for Ballard in the win. Hermann’s ball thefts led to several easy baskets, helping him finish with a game-high 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field.


“It helps to get your shots falling when you just get easy layups,” Hermann said. “I’m always in the passing lanes and I just try and get as many steals as I can and get opportunities for my teammates in transition.”


Drew finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. He also dished out seven assists.


“Connor’s willingness to pass and facilitate really gives opportunity for guys like Ashton,” Ballard head coach Jeff Schertz said. “They’re very well together and they’re very skilled. It’s fun to watch.”


Ballard improved to 11-5 overall and stayed tied with Carroll atop the Raccoon River Conference with a 9-1 conference mark. Kade Reinertson added 10 points, Kale Krogh eight points and six boards and Nic Edwards six points and five rebounds.


Carlisle fell to 6-10 overall and 5-6 in the conference. Jacob Imhoff and Hayden Amos both scored seven points and Cejay Whisler chipped in six for the Wildcats.
