GRIMES - The Ballard volleyball team was overpowered by strong hitting from No. 10 Dallas Center-Grimes in a Class 4A regional semifinal loss to the Mustangs Oct. 29.
The Bombers were swept by scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-15 in finishing the season with an 11-20 record. Ballard had a strong finish to its first season under head coach Morgan Bennett, winning nine of its final 14 matches.
DCG (31-6) tallied 35 kills and just nine errors on 66 attacks. Ballard went without a block on defense.
Ballard finished with 22 kills and nine errors in 73 attacks. The Bombers were 32 of 38 serving with two aces and they totaled 27 digs.
Carley Wilson put up nine kills, six digs and one ace and Ava Ashworth eight kills, four digs and one ace for Ballard in a losing effort. Kaylee Van Pelt had seven assists and two digs, Brynna Huen six assists, two digs and one kill and Molly Houge 12 digs.
Cecilia Christensen chipped in two kills and one dig and Natalie Maher two kills for the Bombers.
Katelyn Knudsen paced DCG with 15 kills, Kamryn O’Brien had 24 assists and seven digs and Grace Mikota finished with 13 digs and eight kills for DCG.
