GILBERT - The Ballard boys’ golf team ended its season with a fifth-place performance at the Class 3A sectional meet at the Ames Golf and Country Club Friday.


Ballard shot a 367 over 18 holes to beat Iowa Falls-Alden by seven strokes for fifth out of eight teams. Nevada dominated the meet with a 293 and Dallas Center-Grimes was a distant second with a 325.


Alex Bangs paced Ballard individually with an 84. He turned in nine-hole scores of 44 and 40 to tie DCG’s Keegan Bianchi for 14th overall.


Kade Miller shot a 93 for the Bombers with rounds of 43 and 50 and Spencer Catus and Tomas Locker each finished with a 95. Catus had nine-hole scores of 48 and 47 and Locker 47 and 48.


Brooks Fleischmann shot rounds of 49 and 48 to finish with a 97. Sam Reitano carded a 100 with rounds of 46 and 54.


Nevada’s Harold Dobernecker and Tyler Sansgaard were medalist and medalist runner-up. Dobernecker shot a one-under par 70 and Sansgaard finished right at par with a 71.


Boone’s Dylan Bangs placed third, DCG’s Derek Shanno fourth and Nevada’s Kyle Linder fifth after each shooting a 75. Gilbert’s Spencer Clatt was the other individual district qualifier after he scored a 77.
