After 26 years of outstanding service as a high school basketball coach, Chris Deason is stepping down as the head boys’ basketball coach at Ballard.
In 20 years at Ballard, Deason posted 266 victories. He led the Bombers to two Raccoon River Conference titles and two state appearances, including a fourth-place finish in Class 3A during 2005.
“I’m really fortunate to have coached at Ballard,” Deason said. “It’s a great program that only had two (head) coaches in the last 49 years. After 26 total years in coaching, I am just ready to step away. It was a really tough decision because we have such great kids in our program and are coming off a fun year, but the time is right for me to be done.”
Deason is leaving Ballard on a high note. With his son Isaiah a key senior leader, the Bombers went 15-10 last year and reached the state tournament in 3A, falling to Norwalk in the first round.
