NORWALK - The Ballard boys’ tennis team went 3-0 at the Saydel Invitational Saturday, defeating Creston, Saydel and North Polk in Norwalk.
The Bombers swept Creston and Saydel by 9-0 scores and earned a 7-2 victory over North Polk to put their record at 8-1 on the season.
In the win over Creston, Caleb Hamerlinck, Max Olsan, Seth Wohlgemuth, Chase Winterboer, Alex Upah and Carter Harms all won in singles play.
Hamerlinck defeated Walker Patterson by an 8-2 score in the No. 1 match, Olsan blanked Eli Hartman, 8-0, in the No. 2 match and Wohlgemuth scored an 8-1 win over Mark Waigand in the No. 3 match. Winterboer whipped Jeremy Rutz in the No. 4 match and Harms won the No. 6 match over Daniel Merritt by identical 8-1 scores and Upah delivered an 8-2 victory over James McDonald in the No. 5 match.
In doubles play, Hamerlinck and Olsan shut out Patterson and Hartman in the No. 1 match, 8-0. Wohlgemuth and Winterboer scored an 8-2 victory over Waigand and McDonald in the No. 2 match and Kyler Watson and Logan Gogerty took the No. 3 match over Rutz and Merritt, 8-2.
Against Saydel Olsan, Upah and Gogerty delivered 8-0 shutouts in the Nos. 1, 3 and 5 singles matches over the Eagles Zach Bobenhouse, Dylan Walker and Bill Burr respectively. Winterboer and Watson won the Nos. 2 and 6 matches by identical 8-1 scores over Saydel’s Ron Kouski and Kenny Michael, and Harms prevailed in an 8-6 battle over Chaise Martin in the No. 4 match.
Hamerlinck and Winterboer earned an 8-1 win over Bobenhouse and Kouski in the No. 1 doubles match. Wohlgemuth and Harms won by an 8-2 score over Walker and Martin, and Upah and Watson also scored an 8-2 triumph in the No. 3 match over Burr and Michael.
Ballard went 3-0 in doubles play against North Polk.
Hamerlinck and Olsan pulled off an 8-0 shutout over Brennan Gering and Ben Ewing in the No. 1 match. Wohlgemuth and Upah earned an 8-5 win over the Comets’ Ethan Knight and Gabe Laizure in the No. 2 match and Harms and Gogerty also delivered an 8-5 triumph in the No. 3 match over Carson Cupp and Chance Bockenstedt
In singles play, Olsan earned an 8-1 win over Gering in the No. 2 match and Wohlgemuth won by the same score over Knight in the No. 3 match. Gogerty and Watson produced identical 8-2 victories in the Nos. 5 and 6 matches over the Laizure and Bockenstedt respectively.
FORT DODGE - Ballard was in top form against Fort Dodge St. Edmond April 15, sweeping every match in a 9-0 victory over the Gaels at Fort Dodge.
Max Olsan and Chase Winterboer both pulled off to 6-0 victories in singles play and Ballard also had three matches decided by 6-0 and 6-1 decisions.
Olsan defeated St. Edmond’s Elijah Litwiller in the No. 2 singles match and Winterboer downed Matt Kordner in the No. 4 match. Logan Gogerty picked up 6-0 and 6-1 wins over the Gaels’ Jonah Hindt in the No. 6 match.
Caleb Hamerlinck joined Olsan in scoring 6-0 and 6-1 wins over Gage Johnson and Litwiller in the No. 1 doubles match. Carter Harms and Kyler Watson pulled off 6-1 and 6-0 victories over Hindt and Max Bacon in the No. 3 doubles match.
Winterboer and Seth Wohlgemuth took down Mitchell Rasmussen and Kordner in the No. 2 doubles match. Wohlgemuth also won a pair of 6-1 sets over Rasmussen in the No. 3 singles match.
Hamerlinck tacked on two 6-1 wins against Johnson in the No. 1 singles match. Alex Upah claimed 6-0 and 6-2 victories over Bacon in the No. 5 match.
Ballard improved to 5-1 on the season with the victory.
