NEWTON - The Ballard boys’ track team placed in three events and just missed in two more at the Cardinal Coed Invitational April 18 in Newton.

Blaine Hermann took fifth in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 100 for Ballard. He also helped the Bombers come in sixth in the distance medley relay.

Hermann ran the 200 in 24.06 seconds to just edge the :24.07 by Perry’s Kato Dougan for fifth. Ottumwa’s Charlie Welch won the race in :23.22.

In the 100, Hermann clocked in at :11.74. Nevada’s Joven Nelson claimed gold in the event with a time of :11.19.

Cody Wolfe, Nic Edwards and Jim Chism joined Hermann to run a 4:03.27 in the distance medley. Grinnell took first in 3:45.19.

The Bombers placed in the top 10 during six other events.

Ballard’s sprint medley team of Hermann, Cael Estrem, Wolfe and Edwards came in ninth at 1:47.58. Ottumwa was the event champion in 1:40.71.

Ashton Hermann finished ninth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.26. Nelson gave Nevada gold in the event with a time of :54.98.

Hermann also ended up ninth in the high jump with a jump of 5-6. South Tama’s Keith Keahna easily won the event with a jump of 6-5.

The Bomber 4 X 100 team of Donovan Bertrand, Braiden Marlatt, Estrem and Gavin Soash took 10th in :52.37. Chris Lee took 10th in the 3,200 with a 11:20.45 showing.

Wolfe also ran a 10th-place time of :24.52 in the 200.

Ballard ended up 11th in the team standings with four points. Ottumwa took first with a score of 107 and Ames was second with 92 points.
