WINTERSET — The Ballard girls’ basketball team wrapped up the regular season by pounding Winterset, 62-28, Friday at Winterset.


The Bombers broke the game open in the second quarter, outscoring the Huskies 22-5 in the quarter. They went up by 29 after three quarters to slam the door.


The victory put Ballard at 19-2 overall and completed a 13-1 run through the Raccoon River Conference.


The Bombers shot 54 percent from the field and went an impressive 9 of 15 from 3-point range. They also forced 25 turnovers and only committed 12.


Molly Ihle turned in a great all-around game with eight points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals and Josie Fleischmann drained four 3-pointers and tallied a game-high 18 points for Ballard. Brooke Loewe added 13 points and four steals, Rachel Wohlgemuth nine points and three steals and Cassidy Thompson nine points and one block.


Winterset finished 6-7 in the RRC and fell to 9-11 overall. Madison Wauters scored 12 points and Mia Olson added 11 for the Huskies.

HUXLEY — Ballard celebrated its final home game of the regular season by wrapping up the Raccoon River Conference championship with a 47-32 victory over Carroll Feb. 5 at Huxley.


Ballard jumped all over Carroll early, then coasted home to pick up its 10th-consecutive victory and earn its 18th conference championship in 26 years of 5-on-5 play.


The Bombers led 22-5 after the first quarter. Carroll pulled within 14 at the half, but the Bombers went on another run in the third quarter, increasing their lead to 22 by the end of the period to sew up the game and improve to 18-2 overall and 13-1 in the RRC.


Ballard shot 48 percent and held Carroll to 29-percent shooting from the field. The Bombers posted a 28-19 rebounding advantage and forced 16 turnovers.


Josie Fleischmann drained all four Ballard 3-pointers and totaled 16 points and four steals. Brooke Loewe had 12 points and three steals and Molly Ihle eight points, five rebounds and five assists.


Meg Rietz added five points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Cassidy Thompson chipped in two points, six rebounds, three blocks, three steals and two assists and Rachel Wohlgemuth and Morgan Gray each tacked on two points.


Carroll fell to 12-8 overall and 6-7 in the RRC. Ashley Onken scored eight points and Gabriella Hammer seven for the Tigers.
