PERRY - The Ballard boys’ basketball team bounced back from defeat the previous night with a convincing 70-36 victory over Perry Friday at Perry.


The Bombers rebounded from an 85-77 setback at Carlisle by holding Perry to 20-percent shooting from the field and posting a 50-36 rebounding advantage. Ballard shot 46 percent from the field and had 22 assists on 30 field goals offensively, improving to 11-7 overall and 7-5 in the Raccoon River Conference.


Ballard used a dominant second quarter to build a 39-20 lead at the half. The Bombers continued to roll in the third quarter, building their lead to 28 points to ice the game.


Connor Drew had 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one block and Max Olsan 19 points, 12 boards, three assists and a block to pace Ballard individually. Isaiah Deason tacked on nine points and seven rebounds, Mason Murphy seven points and three steals, Kale Krogh six points and four boards and Chase Winterboer five assists and three steals.


Perry fell to 0-15 overall and 0-10 in the conference. Brendan Ivory had 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Keghan West six points and 10 rebounds for the Bluejays.

CARLISLE - Ballard couldn’t stop Carlisle from hitting its outside shots in an 85-77 loss to the Wildcats Jan. 31 at Carlisle.


Carlisle made an impressive 14 of 23 3-pointers on the night. The Wildcats also shot at a strong 52-percent clip from the field and outrebounded Ballard, 34-27.


Ballard also hit its share of 3-pointers, going 13 of 34 from long range. The Bombers also committed just six turnovers, but they only got to the line nine times.


The third quarter was the decisive stretch in the game. Ballard took a 45-36 lead at the half, but was outscored 32-12 in the third.


Connor Drew put up 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks for Ballard in the loss. Mason Murphy added 16 points and nine assists, Max Olsan 15 points and five assists and Chase Winterboer 12 points, three assists and two steals.


The loss put Ballard at 10-7 overall and 6-5 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carlisle improved to 5-10 and 4-6 respectively.


Trenton Beck drained eight 3-pointers and totaled a game-high 32 points for Carlisle, and he also pulled down eight rebounds. Collin Lister tacked on 19 points, eight assists, five rebounds and three steals for the Wildcats.
