MAXWELL - The Collins-Maxwell boys’ basketball team didn’t have the horses to keep up with a Grand View Christian team ranked No. 1 in Class 1A Jan. 17, falling to the Thunder by an 83-33 score at Maxwell.


Collins-Maxwell was outscored by 21 points in the first quarter. The Spartans put up a good fight in the second, outscoring the Thunder 13-12, but Grand View Christian went on a 45-18 run over the final two quarters to close out the decisive victory.


Collins-Maxwell dropped to 3-10 with the loss.


The Spartans made 4 of 6 free throws and three 3-pointers. They were outrebounded, 46-21, and Grand View Christian shot 45 percent from the field.


Mason Markley hit two 3-pointers and had 12 points and four rebounds for Collins-Maxwell. Brett Livesay tacked on 10 points and eight boards, Ben Hofer six points and five rebounds, Daniel Klein four points and John Kasper seven assists.


Grand View Christian improved to 14-1. Bryce Crabb had 14 points, eight assists and six steals and Issa Samake 13 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks to pace the Thunder.

GARWIN - Collins-Maxwell had a rough shooting night against GMG in a 65-38 loss to the Wolverines Jan. 15 at Garwin.


The Spartans only made 13 of 59 field goals (22 percent), falling to 3-9 overall and 1-8 in the Iowa Star Conference South Division.


GMG took a 38-13 lead at the half. The Spartans did better offensively in the second half, but they had too much ground to make up.


Mason Markley provided a big bright spot for Collins-Maxwell. Markley drilled six 3-pointers and finished with 23 points and four rebounds.


Brett Livesay tacked on six points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Kadin Bennett also pulled down 10 boards, Weston Kahler dished out five assists and Daniel Klein came up with four steals.
