TAMA - The Collins-Maxwell volleyball team went 0-2 in the Gold Bracket at the Iowa Star Conference tournament Saturday at Meskwaki High School in Tama.

The Spartans fell to rival Baxter in three sets and were swept by Tripoli, falling to 13-12 on the season.

Collins-Maxwell won an exciting 23-21 decision in its first set against Baxter. But Baxter came back to hand the Spartans a 21-15 defeat in the second set, then downed them in the rally game by a 15-9 score.

Collins-Maxwell had 20 kills and 10 attack errors in 86 attacks and went 45 of 46 serving with three aces against the Bolts.

The Spartans also came up with 44 digs and 10 blocks defensively.

Gracie Cheville put up five kills and Reagan Franzen, Elise Robertson and Brailyn Tankersley tacked on four apiece. Cheville also had two digs; Franzen nine digs, seven assists, one block and one ace; Robertson 10 digs, two blocks and one assist and Tankersley three blocks.

Hannah Caple contributed 13 digs, one ace and one kill and Josie Wierson two kills, four digs and two blocks. Jillian Holst chipped in eight assists and five digs, Trinity Stover two blocks and one dig and Brooke Christie one ace.

Amber Weltha led Baxter with 22 kills and five blocks. Kaitlyn Headlee added 23 assists, seven digs and five aces for the Bolts.

Tripoli downed Collins-Maxwell by scores of 21-8 and 21-10.

Collins-Maxwell only had nine kills against six attack errors and one ace in 16 of 19 serving in the match.

The Spartans put up 29 digs and six blocks defensively.

Wierson finished with three kills and Cheville and Robertson two apiece against Tripoli. Wierson also recorded one block and one ace, Cheville three digs and Robertson four digs and one block.

Caple totaled 10 digs, Franzen six digs and five assists and Holst four assists and three digs. Stover tacked on one kill, two blocks and one dig and Tankersley two blocks, two digs and one kill.

DES MOINES - Collins-Maxwell ended a difficult losing skid with a dominant non-conference sweep over Saydel Oct. 11 at Saydel High School in Des Moines.

The Spartans had dropped seven of their previous eight matches heading into the contest. But they had no troubles with Saydel, winning by scores of 25-7, 25-16 and 25-10 to improve to 13-10 on the season.

Collins-Maxwell racked up 12 aces on 68 of 75 serving and recorded 22 kills against nine attack errors on offense. The Spartans also picked up 29 digs and five blocks defensively.

Reagan Franzen led a balanced Collins-Maxwell attack with seven kills, six assists, four digs and a 21 of 21 serving effort. Gracie Cheville added six kills, four aces, one dig and one block.

Elise Robertson finished with three kills, three digs, two assists and one block and Josie Wierson three kills, three aces, two blocks and one dig.

Brailyn Tankersley chipped in two kills, one block and one dig. Hannah Caple also delivered one kill and she led the Spartans in the back row with 11 digs.

Jillian Holst provided Collins-Maxwell with six assists and two digs and Trinity Stover six digs and two assists.
