ALLEMAN - North Polk hung tough for just over a half against Bondurant-Farrar in its Class 3A District 8 opener versus Bondurant-Farrar Friday, but the Comets were overpowered during the second half, suffering a 47-19 homecoming loss at Alleman.

North Polk took a 12-10 lead in the opening minute of the second half after Colten Parkins turned in back-to-back big runs of 40 and 24 yards, with the later resulting in the go-ahead touchdown. But from then on, it was all-Bondurant-Farrar.

Jordan Collins hauled in a 63-yard touchdown pass from Nyanti Gehrke and Kaeden Lozano followed less than three minutes later with the first of his three touchdown runs to put Bondurant-Farrar in front 26-12 going into the fourth quarter.

Another Lozano touchdown scamper increased the Bluejay lead to 21 points early in the fourth. North Polk fought back when Parkins connected with Quinten Sommers on a 45-yard touchdown pass with 8:57 remaining in the fourth, but Bondurant-Farrar responded by ending the game on a 14-0 run.

“We weren’t able to stay in a rhythm on offense (and) we didn’t play fast enough on either side of the ball,” North Polk head football coach Evan Groepper said.

“At the end of the day, you have to be able to run the ball and stop the run. We weren’t able to do that.”

Bondurant-Farrar racked up 305 rushing yards and held North Polk to 99.

“A lot of credit goes to Bondurant,” Groepper said. “They were able to establish the style of game they wanted to play. Their players were aggressive and played physical.”

Lozano ended up with 63 yards rushing to go along with his three scores, Gehrke threw for 146 yards and ran for 105 and Christian Conn tacked on 120 yards and one touchdown rushing and 59 yards receiving to help Bondurant-Farrar improve to 4-1 and start off 1-0 in Class 3A District 8.

Parkins completed 12 of 19 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns and added 78 yards on the ground. Sommers turned in a big night receiving with seven catches for 102 yards and two scores and Ryan Fausch caught four passes for 35 yards.

Defensively, Caleb Lomica came up with 14 tackles for North Polk. Fausch added six, Thomas Jones 5.5, Eddy Burt 4.5 and Dylan Meiners four plus a tackle for loss.

Braden Miller led Bondurant-Farrar with 7.5 tackles, Lozano and Griffin Snelson each picked up a sack and Brody Caswell intercepted a pass for the Bluejays.

North Polk will try to regroup this Friday. The Comets face another tough test in Norwalk (2-3, 1-0).

“The whole team had the right mind-set after the (Bondurant-Farrar) game,” Groepper said. “I believe this group will be ready to go for Norwalk.”

This Friday’s game takes place at Norwalk. It is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
