HUXLEY — The Ballard volleyball team got better as the match wore on against Bondurant-Farrar Sept. 6, but the Bombers had too deep a hole to climb out of after a rough start in a three-set loss at Huxley.
Ballard was overpowered in the first set by a 25-9 score. The Bombers played much tougher in the second set before falling, 25-17, and they were even more competitive in the third, but still came up short by a 25-20 margin to drop the match and go to 0-6 on the season.
The Bombers had 15 kills and 11 errors in 60 attacks and five aces serving in the loss.
Carley Wilson had five kills and three digs, Aviah Taylor three kills and digs apiece and Hannah Elliott two digs and one ace for Ballard in the loss. Allison Vetter stepped up with four kills, and Taiylor Wright and Natalie Maher tacked on one kill apiece.
Brynna Huen added four digs and two aces, Karlee Ahrenholtz eight digs and Molly Houge four digs, one kill and one ace for the Bombers.
HUXLEY — Ballard didn’t get a consistent attack going until it was too late versus Winterset Sept. 4 in Huxley.
The Bombers were swept in their Raccoon River Conference opener. After sluggish 25-14 and 25-13 losses in the first two sets, Ballard put up a tremendous fight in the third set before falling, 25-23.
Ballard Aviah Taylor had five kills, Carley Wilson four and Taiylor Wright two for Ballard in the loss. Taylor also came up with four blocks and two aces and Wilson added five digs and one block.
Hannah Elliott contributed nine digs and three blocks, Karlee Ahrenholtz 11 digs, Sarah Stolte seven digs and Brynna Huen four digs. Assist statistics were not available for the match.
