ALLEMAN - The North Polk girls’ soccer team split games with Des Moines Lincoln and Pella Christian at the North Polk Invitational Saturday in Alleman.
The Comets, ranked No. 8 in Class 1A, knocked off Lincoln by a 1-0 score. Katryn Halterman scored North Polk’s goal off an assist from Danielle Bonewitz, and keeper Sydney Anderson made one save.
North Polk suffered a 1-0 setback against Pella Christian in a sudden-death shootout.
The game was a scoreless tie through regulation, with the Comets getting off 13 shots on goal and not allowing any. In the shootout, both teams made three kicks to force the sudden-death shootout, where Pella Christian got the win after making its first attempt and North Polk misfiring.
Bonewitz, Halterman and Sawyer Elwell were the Comets to convert during the shootout.
The Comets concluded the tournament with an 8-4 overall record.
