AMES - The Ballard boys’ golf team turned in an impressive performance at the Class 3A sectional meet at the Ames Golf and Country Club Friday.

The Bombers shot a 323 over 18 holes to place second out of eight teams behind Nevada’s 314. The runner-up showing advanced Ballard to the 3A district meet at the Lake Creek Country Club in Storm Lake this Friday.

Noah Hartman and Gannon Manfull came up big individually for Ballard.

Hartman placed third individually with a 75, turning in rounds of 37 and 38. Manfull came in eighth with a 79 after carding rounds of 42 and 37.

Robert Klunder and Alex Bangs turned in Ballard’s other counted scores. Klunder had two rounds of 41 to finish with an 82 and Bangs put up a 40 and 47 to score an 87.

Isaac Schafbuch posted an 89 with a 43 out and 46 in and Lucas Mulder scored a 91 with rounds of 45 and 46 as Ballard’s other varsity competitors.

Webster City’s Nathan Ferrell and Gilbert’s Tommy Doyle were medalist and medalist runner-up at the meet after they each finished right at par with a 71.

The 3A district meet in Storm Lake will take place at 10 a.m. this Friday.

BOONE - Ballard took third in a triangular meet with Boone and Carroll at the Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone May 8.

The Bombers turned in a score of 184 over nine holes. Boone won with a 168 and Carroll finished with a 174.

Alex Bangs delivered Ballard’s top score with a 43. Robert Klunder shot a 45, Kade Miller a 47 and Lucas Mulder a 49 to complete the Bomber scoring.

Spencer Catus added a 54 and Tom Locker a 56 for Ballard. Boone’s Christian Bushore was medalist with a 39, and the Toreadors’ Dylan Bangs and Carroll’s Tyler Tunning tied for medalist runner-up with identical rounds of 42.
