STORY CITY - North Polk picked up its second team victory of the week and Ballard earned two gold and three silver medals at the Norsemen Relays boys’ track meet April 26 in Story City.


North Polk scored 174 points to beat Nevada by 36.5 points for first out of eight teams in Class A. Ballard came in sixth with 57 points.


North Polk won six events and came in second on seven occasions. The Comets also earned three bronze medals.


Jacob Wilcox and Quinten Sommers both won two individual events and Caleb Lomica picked up one gold and one silver for North Polk.


Wilcox won both the 3,200 and 1,600-meter distance running events with respective times of 10 minutes, 27.08 seconds and 4:51.09. Wilcox beat Nevada’s Edison Weig by 19.74 seconds for first in the 3,200 and he won the 1,600 by 10.55 seconds over Aplington-Parkersburg’s Hunter Brouwer.


Sommers took first in the 110 high hurdles with a :15.75 showing and the 400 hurdles with a :57.55 performance. Sommers easily topped the :17.17 by Roland-Story’s Ethan Taylor for first in the 110 highs and he won the 400 hurdles by 1.06 seconds over Clear Lake’s Zach Lester.


Sommers also helped North Polk win the 4 X 400 relay. Grant Croat, Michael Williams and J.D. Elefson joined Sommers in running a 3:35.52 to outlast Roland-Story’s 3:39.13 time for the gold.


Lomica peaked in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, four inches. Roland-Story’s Nathan Bell was second with a toss of 47-9.


In the discus, Lomica threw 144-11 to come in behind the 147-2.5 by Roland-Story’s Zach Shadlow.


Alec Bolletta and Elefson went second and third in the 100 and Elefson was also runner-up in the 200. Croat placed third in the 400 for the Comets.


Bolletta ran an :11.69 and Elefson crossed the finish line in :11.71 during the 100. Nevada’s Brendan Sellberg won in :11.47.


Elefson ran a :23.26 in the 200 and Croat finished the 400 in :54.80.


North Polk won silver in four relays — the sprint medley, 4 X 800, 4 X 100 weight person’s and 4 X 100. The Comets also took bronze in the distance medley.


Bolletta, Jake Johnson, Sommers and Chris Banwart ran a 1:43.60 in the sprint medley. Flint Vernon, Croat, Will McCormick and Thomas Jones ran a 9:02.53 in the 4 X 800 to trail only Roland-Story’s 8:43.51.


Jeff Lamp, Davis Foughty and Mark Cox joined with Lomica to win silver in the weight person’s relay with a time of :50.79. Roland-Story won in :49.71.


Elefson, Sutton Sears, Williams and Bolletta clocked in at :45.86 in the 4 X 100 for the Comets. Nevada won in :44.56.


In the distance medley, North Polk’s team of Sears, Johnson, Quinton McArthur and Vernon finished in 4:01.38 to place behind Clear Lake’s 3:55.72 and Aplington-Parkersburg’s 3:59.58.


Ballard won the sprint medley and Skyler Noftsger took first in the 200. Kegan Odden added a runner-up showing in the 400 and the Bombers won silver in the shuttle hurdle and 4 X 200 relays.


Noftsger and Odden were joined by Isaac Schafbuch and Blaine Hermann in running a 1:40.93 to easily top North Polk in the sprint medley. Noftsger edged Elefson for the gold in the 200 with a time of :23.23.


Odden just beat out Croat for second in the 400 after crossing the finish line in :54.60. Roland-Story’s Grant Olson won in :53.20.


Noftsger and Schafbuch teamed up with Nic Edwards and Dawson Lego to run a 1:05.43 in the shuttle hurdle. Nevada won in 1:02.09.


Sam Petersen, Cody Wolfe and Brooks Fleischmann teamed up with Hermann to run a 1:38.84 in the 4 X 200. Roland-Story won in 1:37.14.
