NEWTON - The Ballard boys produced one champion and four bronze medals at the Newton Coed Invitational April 19 in Newton.


Skyler Noftsger won the 200-meter dash and helped Ballard place third in both the sprint medley and shuttle hurdle relays. Kegan Odden was also part of the sprint medley and he took third individually in both the open 400 and high jump.


Noftsger’s winning time in the 200 was 23.12 seconds. He beat Nevada’s Rodrigo Perez by .45 seconds for the gold.


In the sprint medley, Blaine Hermann and Sam Petersen joined Noftsger and Odden to run a 1:39.60. Nevada won in 1:38.15 and Marshalltown clocked in at 1:38.71 to take second.


Nic Edwards, Blake Henga and Isaac Schafbuch joined up with Noftsger to run a 1:03.10 in the shuttle hurdle. Ottumwa blew away the field with a :59.77 and Nevada placed second in 1:02.99.


Odden completed the 400 in :54.27. Grinnell’s Brett Gibson ran a winning time of :53.33 and Ames’ Gage Sletten was runner-up in :54.13.


In the high jump Odden peaked with a jump of 5-4 to finish in a five-way tie for third. South Tama’s Keith Keahna edged Nevada’s Om’Unique Wilkerson for first after jumping 6-5 to Wilkerson’s 6-4.5.


Ballard 4 X 200 team of Hermann, Henga, Petersen and Cody Wolfe ran a fifth-place time of 1:38.45.


As a team, the Bombers scored 39 points to place eighth out of 12 schools. Nevada won with 118.33 points and Ottumwa took second with a score of 103.33.
