HUXLEY - The Ballard girls’ soccer team took down Nodaway Valley/Adair-Casey/West Central Valley by a 3-1 score Monday at Rich Strouse Field in Huxley.

The Bombers improved to 4-3 on the season after converting three of seven shots on goal and only allowing Nodaway Valley/AC/WCV one goal on nine attempts.

Sydney Halverson put two goals in the net and Olivia Dee tacked on one for the Bombers. Cassie Smith assisted on all three Ballard scores.

Bomber keeper Sierra Knight made eight saves. Meredith Marks scored the only goal for Nodaway Valley/AC/WCV.

NEVADA - Ballard came up short in two games at the Nevada Invitational Saturday at Cub Stadium as the Bombers lost a heartbreaker to Nevada and also fell to Panorama.

Nevada defeated Ballard in a 1-0 shootout. After phenomenal defense on both sides through regulation and overtime, Nevada prevailed after making three penalty kicks to Ballard’s two in the shootout.

In the extra session Ballard went first. Cassie Smith converted the first Bomber shot and Nevada was off the mark in the second. Ballard’s Sydney Halverson followed with a make and this time Nevada answered when Kacie Rewerts put one into the net.

The momentum swung in Nevada’s favor over the next two attempts. Ballard was off both times and the Cubs’ Amanda Fortmann converted one of the next two Nevada attempts to tie things at 2-2 going into the final shot.

Nevada keeper Erica Sporrer came up huge on the last Ballard shot, blocking Erin Rochleau’s attempt to give her team a chance to win the game. Freshman Hannah Thomsen took advantage by converting the final kick to seal the deal for the Cubs.

Sierra Knight made 13 saves at keeper for Ballard in the loss.

Panorama handed Ballard a 4-1 setback. Samantha Mosher netted an unassisted goal for Ballard’s only score in the game.

Sydney Halverson and Cassie Smith each had two shots on goal and Mosher and Avery Anderson one apiece for the Bombers against Panorama. Sierra Knight made five saves at keeper and Smith also tallied two saves.

HUXLEY - One score was all it took for Ballard to take out Carlisle Friday at Rich Strouse Field in Huxley.

The Bombers pulled off a 1-0 victory behind great defense. Ballard limited Carlisle to two shots on goal to record its second shutout win in a row.

Sydney Halverson scored Ballard’s only goal off an assist from Avery Anderson. Halverson had four shots on goal, and Anderson, Olivia Dee and Cassie Smith one apiece.

Sierra Knight made two saves at keeper for the Bombers.
