Marvin Kennedy, age 89, of Kelley, passed away August 30, 2018, at Northridge Village in Ames.

Following his wishes, Marvin has been cremated. A Celebration of Life service was held Monday, September 3, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley. Burial of his cremains will be in the Kelley Cemetery.

Marvin Thomas Kennedy was born on July 16, 1929, to Howard and Gladys (Peterson) Kennedy. He served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. Marvin married Alberta Hagen on March 24, 1951, at Bethesda Lutheran Church. He was an owner/operator of M.T. Kennedy Trucking company and and enjoyed wood working, having coffee and visiting with his friends, telling jokes, and spending time with his family. Marvin was elected Mayor of Kelley in 1961 until his retirement in 1981.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Herman Kennedy, Don Kennedy, Lawrence Kennedy, Richard Kennedy; and his sister, Ruth Montague. Marvin is survived by his wife, Alberta; three daughters; Susan (Wayne) Harris of Ames, Sheryl (Ronald) Kamps of Slater, Michelle (Chris) Rembert of Ankeny; one son; Alan (Christine) Kennedy of Huxley; nine grandchildren, Scott (Debbie) Harris, Melissa (Vitaly) Pecharsky, Bradley (Angela) Kamps, Ryan (Amy) Kamps, Tiara Kennedy, Cameron Kennedy, Connor Perry and Aidan Perry, Megan Rembert; brother, John Kennedy of Ames; sister, Doris Stark of Madrid; thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family who will distribute to Marvin’s favorite charities.
