Deteriorating road conditions along State Avenue will require street reconstruction and a temporary street closure beginning this week.
Iowa State University, which manages portions of State Avenue, is seekin Ames City Council approval to close State Avenue from north of U.S. 30 to just south of the State Avenue and Mortensen Road intersection.
The request closed the street beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, for two weeks. Original plans for the State Avenue project included general maintenance and repair work, said Cathy Brown, ISU Facilities and Project Management.
However, once the project started, street surface conditions were much worse than anticipated, and the University opted to completely reconstruct the street. During the closure, no vehicle access will be allowed. The closure will not affect the Mortensen Road and State Street intersection.
For safety reasons please keep pets and children away from the construction zone. If the weather or unforeseen conditions prevent this work from beginning on Wednesday, May 28, it will begin the next day of favorable conditions.
