Cambridge Memorial Library is happy to present “A Universe of Stories,” this year’s Summer Reading Program. This space-themed program includes book clubs, movie presentations, STEM sessions and special events. Children may pick up reading logs and earn fun prizes.
“Read the Book - See the Movie!” will have us show a movie at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and have a discussion of the book and the movie at 6 p.m. on the following Fridays. On June 17, there will be a showing of “The Martian.” “First Man” will be on July 1. July 15 will bring “Hidden Figures.”
Tweens (those children ages 9-13) will be reading “Space Case” by Stuart Gibbs.
They will have book club discussions on that at 2 p.m. on these Wednesdays — June 19, June 26 and July 10. Those who read the book and come to discussions will earn a ticket to see “Mary Poppins Jr.” by Story Theater Company.
STEM sessions by staff of ISU Extension will follow the book club, at 2:30 p.m. June 19 is on planets, June 26 is on the moon and July 10 is on rockets.
There are three special events yet to go. At 10 a.m. on June 19, the Jester Puppets will present “Space Cadets.” Science Center of Iowa will come with “Outer Space Odyssey” on June 26 at 9:30 a.m. Blank Park Zoo will present “Otherworldly Animal Adaptations” at 9:30 a.m. on July 10. These special events are for all ages.
