Story Medical in Nevada, along with Iowa’s Best Country, KIX 101.1 and News Talk 1230 KFJB, are partnering on May 4, from 10 a.m.–3 p.m., for “Kids Day - Learning, Safety and Fun.” Families from all over Central Iowa will be able to attend this first annual event at the Story Medical Campus in Nevada, located at 640 S. 19th St.

There will be special handouts, including FREE bicycle helmets courtesy of Story Medical and the Nevada Police Department, while supplies last. Plus, during the event families will be able to sign up to win a new children’s bicycle.

All parents will receive a FREE Child ID Kit for each child. This kit will be located at the Finger Printing Station where the Nevada Police Department and Story County Sheriff’s Office will talk with kids about staying safe along with taking their fingerprints. Those fingerprints, along with other vital information included in the Child Safety Kit, will allow parents to have a quick reference to give to law enforcement in the event that their child is ever missing.

Ames Ford is partnering with the Nevada Police Department at the Children’s Car and Booster Seat Station to show parents how to properly install seats, along with how children should be properly and safely secured.

Consumers Energy will feature Hazard Hamlet, which incorporates sight and sound to teach kids the danger of electricity.

Key Cooperative will be focusing on Farm Safety with their Grain Entrapment Simulation. Plus, there will be a special game wheel, prizes and a fun display for pictures.

KIX 101.1 and 1230 KFJB will have a Selfie Station, where families can have their photos taken with Cubbie Bear from the Iowa Cubs and Tommy Hawk from the Waterloo Blackhawks.

Lennox Employees Credit Union will have information to give parents and kids on how to start properly saving money early in life.

Mid-Iowa Youth Beef Team is partnering with the Story County Cattlemen to sell a “Burger Meal,” including a burger, chips and bottle of water, to raise funds for flood victims in Nebraska. All of the of proceeds go to the Flood Victim Fund.

North Grand Mall in Ames is giving everyone in attendance the chance to meet and have their photos taken with a Princess and Super Hero.

Van Wall Equipment will have large tractors, along with other fun implements, for kids to explore and see up close.

There will be many other indoor and outdoor activities for families to interact with including:

• Bicycle Rodeo to teach children the skills and precautions to ride a bicycle safely

• Children’s Bicycle Adjustment Station, where kids can bring their own bicycles to get properly adjusted

• Iowa LifeFlight helicopter

• Fire Safety House offering hands-on learning to prepare children for the unexpected experience of a fire

• What You Don’t See trailer will be teaching parents and other adults how kids may be concealing drug use

• Nevada Fire Truck and Story Medical Ambulance for kids’ photo opportunities

• DNR Mobile Education Exhibit presents an exciting way to learn about energy and waste topics

• Nevada Fire Department Bounce House
