Jan. 1: Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 69 near National Drive. The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Altoona woman, was arrested for OWI. She was transported to the Story County Jail in Nevada.


Jan. 4: Officer responded to a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 35 on the northbound off ramp to Highway 210. A Huxley man was sideswiped by an unknown vehicle while stopped at the stop sign. The suspect vehicle then left westbound on Highway 210. No description of the suspect vehicle was made available.


Jan. 5: Officer cited and released a 32-year-old Urbandale man for Driving While License Suspended on Timberlane near Northview Lane.


Jan. 7: Officer responded to a domestic issue at the 300 block of Third Street. The altercation was verbal between a father and teenage son. The son was transported to the hospital for treatment.


Jan. 9: Officer responded to a Criminal Mischief complaint at the 400 block of Campus. A vehicle parked in the parking lot had the passenger side window shattered while the owner was at the dentist office. Estimated damage over $200.


Jan. 10: Officer responded to a domestic altercation at the 200 block of North Third. The altercation was verbal, and the male half elected to stay with a family member in a different town for the night. Officer was called to the high school for a student in possession of marijuana. The student was referred into Juvenile Court for the marijuana.


Jan. 12: Officer responded to single vehicle accident on Interstate 35 southbound near the 106 mile marker. A vehicle operated by a Fort Dodge man slid into the cable barrier, causing approximately $750 in damage. Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 near the 103.5 mile marker in the southbound Lanes. A vehicle operated by an Ottumwa man slid into the cable barriers and came to rest in the travelled portion of the road, where it was struck by a vehicle operated by a Webster City man. Both vehicles were totaled.


Jan. 12: Officer responded to a Criminal Mischief and possible theft at the 500 block of E. First. A construction trailer at a job site was forced open and entered. At this time, it is not known by the victim if any property within is missing. Officer responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 69 near Centennial Drive. A vehicle operated by a Kelley woman slid into the ditch with minimal, if any, damage. Officer responded to a second vehicle that slid into the ditch on Highway 69 near Centennial Drive. No damage was done to the vehicle.


Jan. 15: Officer responded to a motor vehicle theft at the 100 block of Oak Blvd. A vehicle belonging to a Huxley man was stolen during the night. The vehicle was entered in as stolen and was recovered in Ames two days later. A 30-year-old Ames man was arrested and charged for several offenses. He was transported to the Story County Jail in Nevada.


Jan. 16: Officer responded to the 100 block of W. Third Street for a single vehicle accident. A vehicle operated by a Huxley driver struck a building, causing approximately $2500 in damage.


Jan. 18: Officer responded to a hit-and-run accident at the 100 block of National Drive. A vehicle owned by a Huxley man was struck by a white pickup with no plates. The vehicle then left the parking lot. No suspects.


Jan. 24: Officer responded to a car versus deer accident on Highway 210 near 610th. A vehicle operated by a Huxley man struck a deer, causing approximately $7,500 in damage.


Jan. 25: Officer served an arrest warrant at the 100 block of Oak Blvd. A 20-year-old male was transported to the Story County Jail in Nevada.


Jan. 27: Officer responded to a theft complaint at the 300 block of E. Fifth Street. A parked vehicle was entered and a wallet belonging to a Huxley woman was taken. The vehicle was not locked, and the wallet was left on the passenger side seat in plain view. Unknown suspects and unknown time of crime as the vehicle had been this way and unattended to for at least 36 hours. Officer responded to a fraud complaint. The complaint was investigated and found to be a bank error. Officer responded to a theft complaint at the 100 block of Oak Blvd. A vehicle was entered, and various items were taken from within the parked vehicle. Officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 69 near Centennial Drive. The driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old Boone woman, was suspended from driving. She was cited and released with a court date for Driving Under Suspension. Officer responded to a theft complaint at the 100 block of Oak Blvd. A vehicle was entered, and various items were taken from within the parked vehicle.


Jan. 29: Officer responded to a theft complaint at the 100 block of Oak Blvd. A vehicle was entered, and a black purse was taken from within the vehicle. The vehicle was not locked at the time. Officer referred a Ballard student into Juvenile Court for Assault after an incident at the High School.

Jan. 31: Officer served an arrest warrant at the 100 block of Highway 69. A 27-year-old Cambridge man was transported to the Story County Jail in Nevada.


Special Assignments/Trainings


Jan. 2: All officers participated in a building search/room clearing training held at BHS.


Jan. 10: One officer qualified on his service weapon.


Jan. 14: Officer gave a presentation for Senior Safety Awareness.


Jan. 28, 29, 30: Officer attended a Sex Assault Investigation Conference.


Huxley officers had six arrests for the month — two were for Assault, two others for Driving While License Suspended, one for OWI and one for Possession of a Controlled Substance. There were also two arrest warrants served. Officers issued five traffic citations, gave 18 warnings, received 105 calls for service during the month and had a total of 340 contacts. Officers used 296.5 hours toward investigations or handling calls and gave 490.25 hours of general patrol.
