The Polk City Community Library is pleased to announce that our we have been selected as a hosting site for a national study that will begin early next year.

Volunteers are needed to participate in a three-month video-led fitness study conducted by the Geri-Fit Company. To qualify for the study, participants must be over the age of 65 and not be doing any kind of strength training exercises (walking, tai chi or yoga is OK). Most of the exercises will be performed seated in

a chair.

Good attendance is requested! Classes will be conducted during the 12-week period beginning the week of January 14 through mid-April. Classes will be held twice a week for 45-minutes each time. You will need to bring your own set of 2 or 3-pound dumbbell weights, a stretch band and water to drink during the workout. You will be exercising to a Geri-Fit® DVD and several different levels of Geri-Fit® video workouts will be shown throughout the duration of the study.

Everyone is encouraged to work out at their own pace.

Upon completion of the 12-week study, participants will fill out a survey to help evaluate the effectiveness of the video-led classes and to determine if their strength, stamina, balance and range of motion has improved.

Geri-Fit® video fitness classes will start on Jan. 14, 2019 and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Limited space is available. To sign up, see the Front Desk or contact Jamie Noack at 515-984-6119. You can also visit for more information about this evidence-based health promotion program for older adults.
