Sept 3: Officer responded to a domestic altercation at the 500 block of Fourth Street. The altercation was verbal and both parties agreed that they could cohabitate for the remainder of the night with no further problems.
Sept 4: Officer received a harassment complaint from a citizen at the 500 block of Fifth Street. The source of the harassment was online on Snapchat.
Sept 7: Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 69 near First Street. The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old Pleasant Hill man, was suspended from driving. He was cited a released with a court date for Driving Under Suspension.
Sept 10: Officer was contacted by Ballard faculty to check the welfare of a student. Contact was made with the student, who agreed to go to the hospital for treatment. Officer received a theft complaint at the 200 block of Oak Blvd. Property belonging to a Huxley woman was left in the care of her aunt and mother while she was in prison. Upon her return from prison, several items were missing. Ongoing.
Sept 12: Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident at the 400 block of West Centennial. A vehicle operated by a Slater man was struck by a vehicle operated by a Kelley woman, causing approximately $1,500 in damage to each vehicle. No injuries. Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident in the Ballard Plaza. A vehicle operated by an Ames man struck a vehicle operated by an Ankeny woman while backing out of a parking spot, causing over $1,500 in damage to both vehicles. No injuries.
Sept 14: Officer cited and released a 40-year-old Huxley woman for False reports to public safety entities at the 300 block of First Street. Officer responded to an accident at the 100 block of Lynwood. A vehicle operated by a Huxley student struck a parked car, causing approximately $750 damage to each vehicle. No injuries. Officer stopped a vehicle at the 100 Mile Marker of Interstate 35, near the rest area, for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old San Antonio, Texas, man was cited and released for an .02 alcohol violation.
Sept 15: Officer responded to an altercation at the 300 block of First Street. A juvenile female was taken to Rosedale in Ames on a parental placement.
Sept 17: Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 69 near Main. A vehicle operated by a Huxley driver rearended a vehicle operated by another Huxley driver. There were no injuries.
Sept 18: Officer was called to the Ballard Middle School to assist with an out-of-control student. Officer assisted Ballard faculty until no longer needed. Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident at the 100 block of National Drive. A vehicle backing out of a parking spot failed to see a vehicle already travelling in the parking lot and collided with it. The damage to both vehicles total approximately $3,000.
Sept 19: Officer responded to a domestic altercation at the 300 block of First Street. Both parties agreed to remain separated for the remainder of the day; the male half elected to get a ride to Ames while the female remained behind at the residence.
Sept 20: Officer served an arrest warrant at the 100 block of National Drive. A 23-year-old Huxley man was transported to the Story County Jail in Nevada. Officer received a harassment complaint at the 500 block of E. Fourth. Mutual harassment by neighbors over the matter of money was the finding of the responding officer. Both parties were advised to settle their differences in small claims court and to quit the harassing behavior.
Sept 24: Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Oak Blvd near Highway 69. The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old Huxley man, was suspended from driving. He was cited and released with a court date for Driving While License Suspended.
Sept 25: Officer responded to an accident in the Ballard High School parking lot. A vehicle operated by a Cambridge student struck a parked vehicle, causing approximately $1,000 in damage.
Sept 26: Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident in the Ballard High School parking lot. A vehicle operated by Huxley student was struck by another Huxley student, causing approximately $2,000 in total damage. Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 69 near Highway 210. The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old Huxley man, was suspended from driving. He was cited and released with a court date for Driving While License Suspended.
Special Assignments / Training
Sept 7: Officer was assigned to the Ballard football game
Sept 10 and 11: An officer attended a two-day training in West Des Moines and in now certified to give one-on-one counseling to PD and Fire staff. The training came at no cost to the city.
Sept 12 and 13: Officers assisted with ALICE (active shooter) training with the Ballard Middle School faculty and student body.
Sept 12 and 19: All officers re-certified with their duty handguns, duty rifles, duty shotguns and off-duty handguns as required yearly.
Sept 15: Officer was assisted ISU Police with football game day security.
Sept 18 and 19: Officer received FEMA Incident Command Training. This training was held in Nevada and was at no cost to the city.
Sept 20: The Ballard homecoming parade was led by an officer as requested by Ballard Schools.
Sept 21: Officer was assigned to Ballard the Ballard football game for security.
Sept 22: Officer was assigned to the Ballard High School homecoming dance at the request of Ballard Schools.
Sept 27: Officer assisted the Ballard Middle School with their tornado drill.
Huxley officers had five arrests for the month; three were for Driving Under Suspension, one was for False Reports to Law Enforcement, and one was an Alcohol .02 Violation. Officers issued 23 citations for traffic violations, gave 85 warnings, received 152 calls for service and had 410 contacts for the month. Officers used 272.25 hours toward investigations or answering calls for service and gave 565 hours of general patrol.
