Join the Ames Area Amateur Astronomers for a guided tour of the autumn night sky. We will have several large telescopes and binoculars on sight. The event is open to all ages, and snacks will be provided. The event is free.

Paws in the Park

Saturday, Oct. 7, 8 a.m.

The Foundation for the Boone Area Humane Society will hold its annual “Paws in the Park” 5K run/walk. We invite you, with or without your four-legged friend, to take a healthy 5K run/walk at the Iowa Arboretum.

Grapevine Workshop

Sunday, Oct. 14, 1–3 p.m.

Time for our annual fall floral workshop, led by Sandy Gossman and Nan Bonfils. We guarantee you will make and take home two pieces you can use right away, plus tips for quick switch-outs to create a fresh look for winter. Participants will gather some plant materials from the Arboretum grounds for this workshop. (That’s half the fun!). Please dress so that you can spend some time outdoors and please bring garden clippers and light gloves. All other materials will be provided.

Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden - Fall Symposium

Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

This year’s symposium theme is “The Gardening Adventure.” Keynote speaker Jimi Blake, founder of Hunting Brook Gardens in Dublin, will discuss creative planting throughout the season. Jimi will be joined by Mike Kintgen, Julie Moir Messervy and Lloyd Traven, who will share their unique gardening adventures.
