Trains have come to the Gardens — from Nov. 17 through Jan. 6! Visitors young and old will be enchanted by this custom-built garden-scale train. This unbelievably detailed “g-scale” display was created by Applied Imagination, an internationally recognized company whose train displays meld botanical design and architecture. Walk past, around and under miniature buildings and bridges historically significant to Iowa State University and local history, made using only natural materials and accented with a spectacular waterfall. This train exhibit is nestled within the Hughes Conservatory, which is decked for the holidays with Christmas trees and other holiday-themed décor and plantings.

Reiman Gardens will be open late on Thursdays from Nov. 29 through Jan. 3 until 8 p.m., with free admission after 4:30 p.m. on these Thursday evenings. This gives visitors the chance to experience all of the decorations and Christmas lights beautifully illuminated against a night sky. Lit features include: scaled buildings in the train display, Christmas trees flanking the hallway as well as inside the Conservatory, and outside see starburst lights, pole trees, and wrapped lamp posts and containers. Then head to the Reiman Gardens Gift Shop for unique gift ideas. The Gift Shop will offer at least 30 percent off all regularly priced merchandise on these evenings.
