Ballard’s Ihle named to 4A first team

Three area softball players were recently given all-state recognition by the Iowa Girls Coaches’ Association.

Ballard’s Kenzie Ihle and Annie Stolte were honored as all-state selections in Class 4A after helping the Bombers go 25-11 and reach the regional finals one year after claiming the 3A state championship. North Polk senior Rebecca Sieve was named all-state in 3A, since she played a big part in the Comets tying for the Heart of Iowa Conference championship.

Ihle was a first-team pick in 4A after being named to the 3A first team last year.

In 2013 Ihle hit .412 with an .847 slugging average, 11 home runs and 30 RBI in her junior year. She also went 23-10 with an earned-run average of 0.69, 205 strikeouts and 48 walks in 202 innings on the mound.

The rest of the 4A first team was made up of: Dallas Center-Grimes’ Paige Lowary and Macey Wolfe; Winterset’s Karly Olson and Sammie Nicholson; Washington’s Kaitlin Buchholz and Maddie Bohr; Norwalk’s Taylor Goode and Devin Brown; Indianola’s McKenzie Ellis and Brianna Chaplain; Solon’s Mallory Madsen, Kara Misel and Taylor Nearad; LeMars’ Molly Renken; Webster City’s Kaitlyn Biere; Harlan’s Taylor Schaben; Benton’s Alyssa Wiebel; Carlisle’s Payton Mercer; Cedar Rapids Xavier’s Erin Drahozal; North Scott’s McKenna Heim and Denison-Schleswig’s Shelby Pieper.

Wolfe was named the 4A Player of the Year and Lowary the 4A Pitcher of the Year by the IGCA. Indianola’s Stacy Evans was the 4A Coach of the Year.

Stolte landed on the 4A second team after making the 3A first team last year. The talented junior posted a .379 batting average with a .602 slugging average, four home runs, 28 runs and 21 RBI.

Stolte also had a .926 fielding average with 52 assists and 36 putouts at shortstop.

Sieve made the 3A third team for North Polk. She went 17-8 with a 1.39 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 27 walks in 161 innings, helping her team go 19-10 overall. Sieve also hit .365 with nine doubles and 22 RBI.

The 3A first team was made up of: Bondurant-Farrar’s Cailey Schlenker and Ashley Burrows; West Burlington’s Riley Hale; Albia’s Sydney Weldon; Clarke’s Libby Bemis and Sarah Pate; East Marshall’s Katie Roseland; Prairie City-Monroe’s Kelsey Townsend; Mid-Prairie’s Felicia Schulty; Roland-Story’s Bryce Holmgren; Greene County’s Jennifer Kennedy; Iowa Falls-Alden’s Brittany Hammond; I-35’s Jennifer Sandquist; Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove’s Cheyenne Wilcke and Jensen Boger; Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Miles Ludwigs, Marissa Schmidt and Tayler Moriarty; Monticello’s Erin Hosch; Cascade’s Lexi Weber; Northeast’s Aleenah Marcucci and New Hampton’s Raelyn Webster.

Bemis was named 3A Player of the Year and Ludwigs 3A Pitcher of the Year. Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Tom Prince was the 3A Coach of the Year.
