CMB excels in field events

GILBERT – The North Polk boys’ track team just missed another championship and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter took fourth out of eight teams at the Bengal Relays Monday in Gilbert.

North Polk finished with 103 points to only trail the 108.5 by Gilbert in the standings. Iowa Falls-Alden had 86 points in third place, CMB totaled 80 points and Roland-Story was fifth with a score of 67.

Relays were the most successful events for the North Polk. The Comets won the shuttle hurdle, 4 X 800 and 4 X 200-meter relays and took second in the distance medley.

Clay Cory, Jordan Nathan, Austin Williams and Russell Greene teamed up to win the shuttle hurdle in 1:00.09. The Comet team blew away the field as Hampton-Dumont’s runner-up time was six seconds behind North Polk’s.

In the 4 X 800 Ryley Sandberg, Dillon McBee, Reed Smith and Nathaniel Long joined forces to run an 8:24.35. That easily beat Gilbert’s 8:40.68 showing for first.

North Polk’s 4 X 200 quartet of Brandon Albaugh, Nick Kibby, Williams and Matt Cox produced a time of 1:36.22 to beat Iowa Falls-Alden by over one second for first. In the medley, Cox, Kibby, Albaugh and Sandberg ran a time of 3:57 and that was three seconds behind Gilbert for first and just two-hundredths of a second ahead of Hampton-Dumont’s third-place time.

Long had the top individual showing for North Polk as he won the 800 in 2:03.59. Gilbert’s Wes Greder was second with a 2:06.74.

Cory took second in the open 400 with a time of :53.01 and Greene and Nathan were second and third in the 110 high hurdles with respective times of :15.78 and :15.97.

Greene added a silver-medal jump of 19 feet even in the long jump and North Polk won the bronze in the 4 X 400.

Field events continued to be a strong point for CMB. The Raiders took first and second in both throwing events and they tacked on a gold in the long jump.

Zach Samson won both throwing events for CMB. He claimed the shot title with a throw of 55-0.5 and took the discus with a toss of 138-11.

Patrick Girard was second in the shot for the Raiders with a throw of 48-0.5. Clayton Weltha took the silver in the discus after peaking with a distance of 134-7.

Bryce Kemp gave CMB a gold in the long jump. His best jump was 20-2.

On the track Kemp won the 110 highs after crossing the finish line in :15.40. Jordan Coughenour gave CMB a bronze medal in the 400 low hurdles after clocking in at 1:01.16.

Nick Little, Zach Hartgers and Brady Stover teamed with Samson to turn in the most successful relay event for CMB in the 4 X 100. The Raider team took fifth in :50.55.
