CMB struggles offensively in losses

SAYDEL – The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter baseball team wasn’t able to shake off a poor start in an 8-0 loss to Saydel Friday.

The Raiders gave up seven runs over the first two innings and never regrouped, falling to 0-2 on the season.

CMB struggled offensively, going scoreless for the second game in a row. The Raiders only had four hits – all singles – and just two batters drew a walk during the game.

Zach Samson was 1-for-2 with a walk and a steal and Brady Stover, Seth Balke and Logan Cory each went 1-for-3 for CMB. Darrien Sadler also drew a free pass for the Raiders.

Balke was the losing pitcher. He threw all six innings and allowed eight earned runs on eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

COLLINS – Collins-Maxwell-Baxter hung tough for four innings against Roland-Story in its season opener May 21 in Collins, but the Raiders ran out of gas down the stretch in a 6-0 loss.

CMB only trailed 1-0 going into the fifth inning. But Roland-Story scored three times in the fifth and two more in the sixth, and the Raiders never had an answer offensively.

Brady Stover was the losing pitcher despite a solid five-inning outing. Stover gave up six runs – four earned – on seven hits with seven walks and 10 strikeouts.

Zach Samson threw the final two innings and he gave up just one hit and didn’t allow a run.

The Raiders only mustered two hits and two walks on offense.

Seth Balke singled and stole a base and Samson also singled once for the lone Raider hits. Darrien Sadler drew both of CMB’s walks at the plate.
