ALLEMAN – The North Polk volleyball team made short work of Colfax-Mingo in an easy four-set victory over the Tigerhawks at Alleman Sept. 24.

The Comets had one bad set, but otherwise they completely overpowered the Tigerhawks, improving to 13-8 on the season and 2-2 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.

North Polk didn’t allow Colfax-Mingo to reach double figures in any of its three victories. The Comets claimed the first set by a 25-6 score and handed out a 25-5 drubbing in the third set before closing things out with a 25-9 win.

Colfax-Mingo took advantage of a North Polk team that was perhaps a little overconfident after the first set to score a 25-17 win in the second set and avoid the sweep.

For the match North Polk produced 40 kills against 16 kill errors for a kill-efficiency rate of .240. The Comets also had an impressive 17 aces on an 82 of 92 serving effort, and they compiled 64 digs and four blocks.

Megan Murphy and Lilly Lomica turned in excellent all-around matches for North Polk. Murphy contributed 11 kills, seven digs and one ace and Lomica delivered eight kills and seven digs.

Hannah Becker was strong at middle blocker, recording 10 kills and one block. Jill Christensen had 12 digs, six assists, five kills, two blocks and two aces and Miranda Murphy finished with four kills and one block.

Gracie Harmeyer stepped up with 30 assists and 11 digs at setter and she was also the team’s top server after finishing 24 of 25 with four aces. Morgyn Bullock also had four aces and she paced the Comets in digs with 20.
