NP sweeps Saydel, loses to R-S

STORY CITY – The North Polk volleyball team dropped a Heart of Iowa Conference heartbreaker to Roland-Story Sept. 19 in Story City.

The Comets fell to the Norse in five sets to fall to 1-2 in the HOIC and 10-6 overall. Roland-Story improved to 3-1 in the conference and 10-3 overall.

North Polk won the opening set in a 26-24 barnburner. The Comets fell apart in the second, losing 25-13, and they also dropped the third by a 25-17 score.

Facing elimination, North Polk rallied for a 25-20 victory in the fourth set. That forced a rally game to decide the match.

The rally game was a hotly-contested battle that went back and forth. In the end Roland-Story prevailed by a 16-14 score.

North Polk had 40 kills and 34 attack errors in the match. The Comets went 89 of 96 serving with three aces and totaled 14 blocks.

Megan and Miranda Murphy each had 11 kills for North Polk in the loss. Megan also finished with eight digs, two blocks and one assists and she went 16 of 17 serving and Miranda tallied three blocks.

Lilly Lomica had a strong all-around match as she went 9 of 11 serving and totaled 16 digs, eight kills and two blocks.

Hannah Becker and Jill Christensen finished with five kills apiece. Becker also had two blocks and Christensen finished with nine digs and two blocks, assists and aces apiece.

Morgyn Bullock also had nine digs and Courtney Bonewitz tallied two for the Comets. Gracie Harmeyer dished out 31 assists and she also went 23 of 26 serving with an ace.

SAYDEL – North Polk earned its first Heart of Iowa Conference victory of the season by sweeping Saydel at Saydel Sept. 17.

The Comets prevailed by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-16. They had a .220 kill-efficiency rate with 28 kills and 10 errors in 82 attacks and they also totaled 14 blocks and 12 aces.

Hannah Becker and Megan Murphy each had seven kills for North Polk in the win. Becker also picked up four blocks and Murphy finished with 11 digs, three blocks and four aces.

Miranda Murphy slammed home six kills and tacked on six blocks for North Polk in the victory. Lilly Lomica registered a team-high 20 digs and added four kills and three aces and Gracie Harmeyer dished out 24 assists and chipped in four digs and two aces.

Jill Christensen had five digs, three kills, two aces and one block, Courtney Bonewitz and Kaylee Wolfe each contributed five digs and Morgyn Bullock delivered two digs, one kill and one ace.
