MONROE – The North Polk volleyball team picked up a convincing sweep over Prairie City-Monroe in Heart of Iowa Conference play Oct. 1 at Monroe.
The Comets rolled to 25-16 and 25-15 victories in the first two sets and they dismantled the Mustangs by a 25-7 score in the third set to wrap up the decisive win and improve to 3-2 in the HOIC and 14-8 overall.
North Polk picked up 36 kills and had 17 errors in 104 attacks for a kill-efficiency rate of .183. The Comets also had eight aces and five blocks on the night.
The twin-sister tandem of Megan and Miranda Murphy dominated the net for North Polk as they combined for 25 kills. Megan had 13 kills, 11 digs, one block and two aces on an 11 of 11 serving performance and Miranda delivered 12 kills against just two attack errors and she added one block defensively.
Freshman Hannah Becker led the team in blocks with three and she also hammered down five kills at middle blocker. Jill Christensen recorded four digs, three kills and one ace; Morgyn Bullock produced four digs, two kills and three aces on a 16 of 17 serving performance and Lilly Lomica had one kill along with eight digs and one ace.
Gracie Harmeyer handed out 30 assists and went 22 of 23 serving and she also contributed five digs.
