NP tops Ballard head to head

WEBSTER CITY – North Polk finished 1-1 and Ballard ended up 0-2 in a triangular match with Webster City Sept. 3 in Webster City.

North Polk swept Ballard in the head-to-head match-up between the two rivals, and both teams came up short against Webster City. North Polk’s season record moved to 5-3 at the conclusion of the meet and Ballard fell to 0-4.

In the Comet-Bomber match, North Polk prevailed by scores of 25-17 and 25-20. The Comets had 20 kills and 11 attack errors for a .132 kill-efficiency rate and Ballard turned in a .219 efficiency-rate, though the Bombers only finished with 11 kills.

North Polk had a stronger serve after going 43 of 48 with four aces to Ballard’s 28 of 34 showing with two aces. The Comets tallied five blocks and Ballard finished with eight, and North Polk had a huge edge defensively in the back row, compiling 32 digs to the Bombers’ seven.

Megan Murphy had seven kills and 10 digs, Hannah Becker delivered six kills and four blocks and Jill Christensen produced four kills and two aces for North Polk in the victory. Miranda Murphy chipped in three kills, Morgyn Bullock had 13 assists, Courtney Bonewitz racked up seven digs and Lilly Lomica chipped in six digs for the Comets.

Meredith Ossian had three kills and three blocks; Brooke Mallon finished with two kills, two digs and one block and Abby Carlin dished out five assists and added in two digs, one kill, one block and one ace for Ballard in the loss. Charcey Petersen had five assists and one ace and Alanna Dubberke produced two blocks and one kill for the Bombers.

North Polk suffered losses by scores of 25-20 and 25-21 against Webster City. The Comets had 19 kills and 11 attack errors; they went 36 of 42 serving with four aces and also tallied nine blocks versus the Lynx.

Miranda Murphy finished with eight kills and four blocks and Megan Murphy and Christensen each tacked on four kills apiece. Megan also had four digs, two blocks and an ace and Christensen went 9 of 10 serving with an ace.

Lomica finished with three kills and digs apiece in the loss. Bullock handed out 14 assists and Bonewitz contributed six digs.

Ballard fell to Webster City by scores of 25-19 and 25-15. The Bombers had eight kills and only three attack errors and they picked up 11 blocks and went 19 of 23 serving with three aces.

Mallon finished with three kills and two blocks and Ossian had three blocks and two kills, plus a pair of digs in the setback against Webster City. Dubberke came through with three blocks and one kill; Carlin had four digs, three blocks and two aces and Petersen and Rachel Bruns each handed out four assists.
