ALLEMAN – The North Polk boys’ soccer team upset ranked Class 2A foe Adel-Desoto-Minburn April 4 in Alleman.

North Polk, unranked to start the season in 1A, downed No. 4 ADM by a 2-1 score to improve to 3-1 on the year. The Comets recorded nine shots on goal and only gave up four in a tremendous outing to earn their third-straight victory.

Eric Bonewitz and Peter Smith netted one goal apiece and Bryce Richards dished out an assist for North Polk in the win. Bonewitz had four shots on goal, Chad Conger delivered two and Smith, Richards and Ethan Ley came through with one apiece.

Backed by a tough North Polk defense, Garrett Ley had a strong game at keeper after making three saves and giving up just the one ADM score. Blake Heimann scored ADM’s lone goal and Jacob Hutzell came through with two shots on goal and an assist for the Tigers.

Brett Buscher made seven saves at keeper for ADM in a losing effort.

ALLEMAN – North Polk picked up its first shutout of the season with a 3-0 triumph over Des Moines Christian April 2 in Alleman.

The Comets had three different players score and they finished with 10 shots on goal compared to the Lions’ seven.

Eric Bonewitz, Chad Conger and Bryce Richards each scored once for North Polk. Bonewitz also had one assist and Peter Smith dished out two.

Garret Ley made seven saves at keeper for North Polk. Dillon Bruxvoort had six saves for Des Moines Christian and Travis Manderfield fired off two shots on goal for the Lions.

PELLA – North Polk scored its first victory of the season with an explosive offensive showing against Pella Christian April 1 in Pella.

Coming off a 3-0 loss to Southeast Polk to open the season, North Polk had three players score at least two goals in a 7-2 victory over Pella Christian.

Chad Conger had a huge game for North Polk in the victory. He tallied a hat trick with three goals and also dished out two assists.

Eric Bonewitz and Craig Fourez scored two goals apiece to account for the rest of the Comet scoring. They each had one assist as well.

As a team, North Polk totaled 14 shots on goal and allowed seven. Comet keeper Garrett Ley made five saves.

RUNNEALS – North Polk opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Class 3A school Southeast Polk March 28.

The Comets had seven shots on goal, but could never get through against the Rams. Eric Bonewitz fired off five shots on goal for North Polk and Chad Conger and Bryce Richards each finished with two.

Garrett Ley made 11 saves in a busy night at keeper for the Comets.
