Comets on five-game win streak
ALLEMAN – The North Polk boys’ soccer team scored its fifth-consecutive victory Friday with a 6-1 win over Prairie City-Monroe at home.
North Polk, ranked 15th in Class 1A, had five different players score in the convincing victory. Craig Fourez scored twice and Eric Bonewitz, Chad Conger, Peter Smith and Matthew Turk put one goal on the board apiece to help get the Comets to 8-4 on the season.
Bonewitz, Conger and Kyle Bower each had one assist as well. Keeper Garrett Ley only had to make one save in 60 minutes of shutout ball on defense, and backup Jonah Claussen made four stops.
Lucas Rozendaal scored PCM’s lone goal.
ALLEMAN – North Polk did just enough to get past Winterset in a 7-6 slugfest between two quality teams May 14 in Alleman.
The Comets fired off 25 shots on goal and the offensive consistency enabled them to hold off a game Husky team for their fourth-consecutive victory.
Eric Bonewitz and Craig Fourez each tallied two goals and one assist for North Polk in the win. Chad Conger, Bryce Richards and Chris Sims tacked on one goal apiece.
Keeper Garrett Ley ended up with seven saves for North Polk. Jobe Jensten and Lucas Nolan scored two goals apiece and Drue Coffman and Noah Kaldenberg each found the net once for the Huskies, who fell to 10-5.
