CMB also loses to Greene County
BAXTER – The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter volleyball team struggled to get anything going in a loss to Greene County Monday in Baxter.
CMB was swept in three sets to fall to 3-5 on the season and 0-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference. The Raiders suffered a 25-12 loss in each set.
The CMB attack was inconsistent, producing as many errors as kills with 10 apiece in 51 attacks. The Raiders went 32 of 36 serving with two aces and they had seven blocks as a team.
Payge Jurgens led CMB in kills with four and she also had two digs and one block. Abbie Haupert had two kills, six digs and five blocks and Bridge Hurley finished with two kills, three digs and one ace.
Abbey Appelgate and Alex Hlavacek each produced one kill for the Raiders. Appelgate also had 10 digs and one ace and Hlavacek chipped in one block.
Bekah Pearson finished with nine digs and Mackenzie Schmitz tallied six. Schmitz also led the team in assists with six.
NEVADA – Collins-Maxwell-Baxter put up a gutsy fight against Nevada Sept. 17 at the Nevada High School Field House, but the Raiders just didn’t have the horses to keep up with the No. 6 team in Class 3A.
CMB was swept by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-20 to fall to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the Heart of Iowa Conference. But even though the scores indicate a lopsided loss, the Raiders hung tough for stretches in each set, especially the third, where they put a little bit of a scare into the Cubs before falling short.
"We played Roland-Story a couple weeks ago ,and tonight was to see how much improvement we’ve made since then," CMB head coach Scott Ranck said. "Nevada is good, so I’m really happy with how our girls have been playing lately."
The Raiders had won three out of their four matches between the Roland-Story and Nevada confrontations.
In the loss to the Cubs ,CMB posted a .173 kill-efficiency rate with 18 kills and nine errors in 52 attacks. Nevada posted a .236 efficiency-rate with 35 kills and 14 errors in 89 attacks.
CMB went 42 of 47 serving with three aces and also totaled 36 digs as a team. The Raiders were hurt by a shaky performance on serve receive as Nevada came up with 17 aces on the night.
Abbie Haupert had eight kills, eight digs and one block for CMB in the loss. Payge Jurgens finished 15 of 15 serving with two aces and she also hammered down seven kills and picked up three digs.
Abbey Appelgate, Alex Hlavacek and Bridget Hurley finished with one kill apiece for the Raiders. Appelgate also had 13 digs and two assists.
Mackenzie Schmitz handed out 13 assists and totaled two digs. Katie Ziesman finished with three digs and one ace and Toni Spencer also contributed two digs for CMB.
Nevada improved to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the HOIC with the victory. Megan Pringnitz tallied 12 kills and two aces, Kati Cassabaum finished with nine kills and two blocks, Mara Rhodes slammed home five kills and Abby Stephenson delivered three kills, four digs and two aces for the Cubs.
