ALLEMAN – A strong attack helped North Polk sweep Collins-Maxwell-Baxter in a Heart of Iowa Conference volleyball match Oct. 15 in Alleman.
North Polk scored 25-16 and 25-15 victories in the first two sets and completely dominated the third, winning 25-6 to wrap up the match and earn its sixth-consecutive victory.
The Comets slammed home 48 kills and had only 15 errors in 125 attacks to finish with a kill-efficiency rate of .264. CMB only had 14 kills against nine errors in 72 attacks for an efficiency rate of .069.
North Polk also picked up seven blocks and went 69 of 72 serving with six aces. CMB totaled six blocks and went 38 of 39 serving with two aces.
Megan Murphy led the three Comets with double-figure kill totals, as the outside hitter celebrated her final regular-season home match with 13 kills in 31 attacks. Murphy also totaled 15 digs and two blocks and she was 23 of 23 serving with two aces.
Miranda Murphy had 11 kills and Lilly Lomica picked up 10 for the Comets. Miranda tacked on one block and Lomica delivered 11 digs and four blocks.
Jill Christensen celebrated senior night with eight kills and she also had five digs, two assists and two aces. Hannah Becker finished with three kills and Morgyn Bullock, Lexi Dvorak and Gracie Harmeyer each had one for the Comets.
Harmeyer also handed out 39 assists and totaled seven digs. Bullock recorded a team-high 20 digs and she chipped in two aces to help the Comets improve to 21-9 overall and 5-3 in the HOIC.
CMB fell to 11-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference. Abbie Haupert had 14 digs, five blocks and four kills; Payge Jurgens recorded seven digs, three kills and one ace, Bridget Hurley finished with four digs and three kills and Abbey Appelgate registered 10 digs, three assists and one kill for the Raiders.
Mackenzie Schmitz and Bekah Pearson each chipped in six digs and Toni Spencer added five for CMB. Schmitz also handed out four assists, Pearson picked up one kill and Katie Ziesman finished with three digs, one assist and one kill.
