Rose, Sieve lead NP to 8-2 victory

JEWELL – A hot start propelled the North Polk softball team to an 8-2 victory over South Hamilton in its season opener May 21 in Jewell.

The Comets erupted for four runs in the first inning and they plated two more in the second to take a 6-1 lead through two innings. South Hamilton pulled within 6-2 in the fourth and the North Polk offense cooled down in the third through sixth frames, but in the seventh the Comets put two more unanswered runs on the board to put the final stamp on a Heart of Iowa Conference victory.

Rebecca Sieve was the winning Comet pitcher. Sieve allowed two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks in a complete-game effort.

Brandi Rose paced North Polk offensively as she went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Lilly Lomica was 2-for-3 with a walk, run and RBI; Audrey Ley went 2-for-3 with two runs; Macy McGill doubled in two runs; Sieve doubled and scored; Makayla Burt was 1-for-4 with one run and RBI apiece; and Carly Madson went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Mallory McDonald also walked and scored for North Polk.
