Raiders score wins at Madrid, Perry
MADRID – The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter volleyball team picked up its third victory in four matches Monday by taking down Madrid in four sets at Madrid.
The Raiders evened their season record at 3-3 after winning the first, third and fourth sets against the Tigers. They pulled off a 25-19 victory in the opening set, rebounded from a dreadful 25-9 loss in the second game with a tight 26-24 win in the third set, then closed out the match with a 25-20 triumph in the fourth set.
CMB had a .138 kill-efficiency rate with 39 kills and 23 errors in 116 attacks. They also picked up an impressive 17 aces serving the ball.
Abbie Haupert turned in a dominant all-around night for CMB. Haupert slammed home an impressive 17 kills with just six errors on 41 attacks and she also picked up eight digs, five blocks and two aces.
Katie Ziesman finished with eight kills and seven digs. Payge Jurgens had six kills and digs apiece and Alex Hlavacek totaled two blocks, one kill and three aces.
Abbey Appelgate had a monster serving night by going 25 of 26 with 10 aces and she also picked up 12 digs and six kills. Mackenzie Schmitz dished out 25 assists and led the team in digs with 13.
Bekah Pearson delivered 12 digs and Toni Spencer finished with five.
PERRY – Collins-Maxwell-Baxter earned its first two victories of the season at the Perry Invitational Sept. 12.
The Raiders went 2-1 at the tournament to improve to 2-3 overall. They defeated Panorama and Perry and lost to Earlham.
CMB took down Panorama by scores of 21-17 and 21-16. The Raiders had a strong .320 kill-efficiency rate with 12 kills and only four errors in 25 attacks and they also picked up eight aces serving the ball.
Abbie Haupert had seven kills and four digs and Katie Ziesman finished with three kills, two digs and an ace for CMB in the victory. Mackenzie Schmitz contributed 11 assists and two digs; Abbey Appelgate recorded four aces, three digs and one kill; Alex Hlavacek had one kill and ace apiece; Hannah McWhirter finished with two aces and Bekah Pearson chipped in two digs.
CMB also swept Perry, prevailing by scores of 21-15 and 21-18. The Raiders picked up 14 kills and totaled nine attack errors and they finished with six digs and five blocks.
Haupert accounted for all five CMB blocks. She also led the team in kills with five and contributed eight digs.
Payge Jurgens delivered four kills and she was 7 of 7 serving with one ace against Perry. Ziesman and Appelgate tacked on two kills apiece, with Ziesman also racking up 10 digs and Appelgate going 16 of 16 serving with six aces.
Hlavecek finished with one kill, dig and ace apiece. Schmitz handed out 12 assists and tallied two digs and Pearson and Toni Spencer each finished with five digs.
The Raiders were swept by scores of 21-16 and 23-21 against Earlham. CMB fell despite a strong attack as the Raiders produced 18 kills and a .351 kill-efficiency rate.
Jurgens had seven kills, six digs and one block and Haupert finished with six kills and two digs for CMB in the loss. Appelgate added six digs and two kills and Ziesman delivered four digs, two assists and a pair of kills.
Bridget Hurley finished with one kill and dig apiece against Perry and Schmitz delivered 11 assists and seven digs.
