Raiders improve to 3-8

MAXWELL – The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter girls’ soccer team took down Webster City by a 2-1 score to pick up its third victory of the season May 16.

The CMB girls picked up one goal apiece from Cassandra Bianchi and Kandance Breckenridge in the victory. Taylor Dulaney also had an assist for the Raiders, who totaled 20 shots on offense.

CMB keeper Lexi Breon made nine saves and she was backed by a quality team defensive effort that helped the Raiders improve to 3-8.

GILBERT – Collins-Maxwell-Baxter was overwhelmed by Gilbert May 14 in Gilbert as the Raiders spent most of the time on their own half of the field in an 8-0 setback.

Gilbert ended up with a whopping 62 shots on the night and CMB only had one. Raider keeper Lexi Breon gave a valiant effort with 38 saves, but the Tigers were simply too overpowering.

Catherine Carano led Gilbert with three goals and Kelly Anderson, Joy Battles, Shelby Gibson, Katie Reed and Sadie Timms netted one apiece for the Tigers. Taylor Dulaney recorded the only shot for CMB.

ALDEN – Collins-Maxwell-Baxter gave a good effort against Iowa Falls-Alden May 13 in Alden, but the Raiders came up short by a 6-2 score.

CMB keeper Lexi Breon fought hard against an overpowering Cadet offense to make 24 saves in a losing effort. Taylor Dulaney and Katie Ziesman each scored once for the Raiders and they combined for all 15 of the team’s shots on offense.

MAXWELL – The inability to capitalize on offense or slow down a relentless Carlisle attack resulted in a 4-0 loss for Collins-Maxwell-Baxter versus the Wildcats May 10 in Maxwell.

The Raiders had 17 shots on the night, but they failed to get one to go into the net. Carlisle fired off 47 shots, which proved to be too much for a gutsy Raider defense.

CMB keeper Lexi Breon did her best to keep the game close as she came through with 32 saves in a losing effort.
