Stover strikes out 16 in 7-2 loss

COLLINS – The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter baseball team did well in the middle innings versus Prairie City-Monroe Friday, but the Raiders couldn’t overcome a poor start and a rough seventh inning in a 7-2 loss.

CMB fell behind 3-0 after two innings. The Raiders then outplayed the Mustangs over the next four frames.

The Raiders closed within 3-2 after scoring a run in the bottom of the third and adding another in the sixth. But PCM came back with a four-run surge in the top of the seventh and CMB had no answer, falling to 1-15 overall and 0-13 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.

Brady Stover threw 6 1/3 innings in a losing effort for CMB. Stover allowed six earned runs on six hits with four walks and he racked up an impressive 16 strikeouts.

Zach Samson allowed one run on two his with one strikeout in the final 2/3 of an inning for CMB.

On offense the Raiders totaled six hits. Seth Balke went 1-for-3 with a double, walk, steal and RBI and Samson was 2-for-2 with a walk, run and steal to lead CMB.

Brad Ritter walked twice, singled and scored; Logan Cory singled and drove in a run; Nick Carroll singled and stole a base and Levi Anderson walked once for CMB.

Austin Brown was the winning pitcher for PCM as he gave up two earned runs with seven strikeouts and four walks in six innings. Alex DeWitte hit a solo home run, Nathan VandeWall doubled and scored twice and Ethan Kain was 2-for-3 with two steals, a run and two RBI to pace the Mustangs on offense.
