WAVERLY – The Ballard volleyball team wasn’t able to hang with No. 4 Waverly-Shell Rock in the semifinal round of Class 4A regional semifinal competition Oct. 31 in Waverly.

The Bombers were swept in three consecutive sets to end the season at 6-20.

Ballard was overwhelmed by the powerful Go-Hawk squad right out of the gate. The Bombers were handed a lopsided 25-6 loss in the opening set.

Ballard put up a better fight in the next two sets. But the Bombers still couldn’t get within striking distance either time, falling by respective scores of 25-10 and 25-11.

For the match the Bombers had 13 kills and 10 errors in 43 attacks. Ballard finished with four solo blocks and 13 digs and the Bombers were 27 of 28 serving with no aces.

Brooke Mallon had five digs and four kills and Alanna Dubberke came through with five kills and three blocks in the final match of their careers for Ballard. Abby Carlin added six assists, five digs and one kill; Meredith Ossian had two solo blocks and kills apiece; Hannah Larsen picked up one kill and Charcey Petersen handed out five assists for the Bombers.
