NEVADA – It was a rough day for the Ballard volleyball team at the Nevada Invitational Saturday as the Bombers went 0-3 at the Nevada High School Field House.
Ballard lost a tough five-set match to Carlisle and the Bombers were swept by Nevada and West Marshall to fall to 3-13 on the season.
The match to Carlisle was as even as could be with each set decided by two points. Carlisle took a 23-21 win in the first set, Ballard came back to prevail by a 22-20 score in the second set and the Wildcats edged the Bombers by a 17-15 score in the rally game.
Alanna Dubberke and Brooke Mallon were strong at the net for Ballard in the loss. Dubberke totaled six kills and three blocks and Mallon finished with four kills and three blocks.
Abby Carlin contributed two kills and she also had six assists and one block. Alex Petersen led Ballard in digs with six and Charcey Petersen recorded six assists and five digs.
Ballard didn’t have any answers for a Nevada team ranked sixth in Class 3A. The Bombers suffered losses by margins of 21-8 and 21-6.
Hannah Larsen had three kills, Dubberke finished with two and Carlin, Mallon and Meredith Ossian compiled one apiece. Mallon also had four digs and one block and Charcey recorded four assists and one dig.
West Marshall handed Ballard losses by scores of 21-13 and 21-17. The Bombers finished with 19 kills against 11 kill errors and they totaled 10 blocks in a losing effort.
Dubberke put up five kills and Larsen, Mallon, Ossian and Rachel Bruns each had three against West Marshall. Dubberke also had three blocks, Mallon and Ossian tacked on two apiece and Bruns chipped in one.
Carlin totaled six assists, four digs and one kill, block and ace apiece versus the Trojans. Charcey handed out 11 assists and Alex contributed six digs.
ADEL – Ballard suffered its second Raccoon River Conference loss of the season Sept. 24 as the Bombers were swept on the road by Adel-Desoto-Minburn.
Ballard improved gradually each set, but it wasn’t near enough to get past the Tigers. The Bombers were overpowered by a 25-5 score in the opening set and by a 25-11 margin in the second. They played much better in the third before losing, 25-18, to fall to 2-2 in the RRC.
The Bombers struggled with their attack against ADM. They had a -.019 kill-efficiency rate and also went without a single ace serve.
Meredith Ossian and Alanna Dubberke tallied three kills apiece and Brooke Mallon and Hannah Larsen chipped in two each. Dubberke also had three solo blocks and she led the team in digs with four.
Abby Carlin dished out six assists and Charcey Petersen handed out three against the Tigers.
