HUXLEY – The Ballard volleyball team improved to 2-1 in the Raccoon River Conference with an exciting five-set victory over Perry at home Sept. 19.

The Bombers pulled off a 25-18 victory in the opening set, lost the second by a 25-15 score and claimed a 25-20 victory in the third. In the fourth set, Ballard completely fell apart in a 25-10 loss to force a rally game.

In the rally game Ballard regrouped to score a 15-9 victory and improve to 2-6 overall on the season.

Ballard finished with a .268 kill-efficiency rate after scoring 34 kills against 12 errors in 82 attacks. The Bombers picked up 14 aces serving the ball and they also finished with eight solo blocks.

Brooke Mallon finished with nine kills and Alanna Dubberke and Meredith Ossian tallied seven apiece for Ballard in the win. Mallon also had six digs, two solo blocks and two aces; Dubberke registered two solo blocks and one ace and Ossian finished with two solo blocks, two digs and one ace.

Abby Carlin and Hannah Larsen each had four kills for Ballard in the win. Carlin also handed out 12 assists and went 18 of 20 serving with six aces, and Larsen chipped in one solo block.

Charcey Petersen dished out 22 assists and went 20 of 22 serving with three aces in the victory. Alex Petersen led the team in digs with seven, Ashley Davis added three and Rachel Bruns picked up one solo block.
