Ballard takes first and second in both singles and doubles play
ELDORA – It was all Ballard at the South Hardin Invitational Saturday as the Bomber boys’ tennis team produced the top two finishers in both singles and doubles play.
Ryan Vincent won the singles tournament for the Bombers and he defeated teammate Cody Fausch in the finals.
Vincent whipped players from South Hardin and Grundy Center by respective scores of 8-1 and 8-0 to reach the finals. Fausch trounced opposition from South Tama, South Hardin and Dike-New Hartford by scores of 8-1, 8-0 and 8-2 respectively to earn his spot in the finals against Vincent.
In the championship match, the two Bombers engaged in a highly competitive battle, with Vincent pulling off a 9-7 victory to claim the title.
Kordell Lettow and Taylor Bridgewater went 3-0 to claim the doubles championship for Ballard. Like in singles competition, they had to defeat their teammates in the finals as Ryan Allen and Joe Kruger took second.
Lettow and Bridgewater swept teams from South Hardin and Dike-New Hartford, scoring two 8-0 victories to reach the finals. Allen and Kruger downed a team from South Tama by an 8-2 score and pulled off an 8-4 victory over a Grundy Center team to set up the championship match against Lettow and Bridgewater.
In the title match, Lettow and Bridgewater continued their hot play by scoring a third 8-0 shutout win.
