Bombers sweep Winterset

BONDURANT – The Ballard volleyball team never recuperated from a poor start against Bondurant-Farrar Sept. 12 as the Bombers were swept by the No. 14 in Class 3A at Bondurant.

Ballard was completely out of sync in the opening set, losing 25-7. The Bombers performed better in the next two sets, but came up short each time – 25-15 and 25-21 – to fall to 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in the Raccoon River Conference.

The Bombers had 19 kills and a strong .371 kill-efficiency rate in the loss. They struggled serving the ball, only converting on 31 of 42 attempts (.738 percent).

Brooke Mallon tallied 11 kills, three digs and four blocks in the loss. Meredith Ossian added three kills and two blocks, Hannah Larsen contributed three kills and blocks apiece and Alanna Dubberke finished with six blocks and one kill.

WINTERSET – Ballard opened up Raccoon River Conference play by earning its first victory of the season with a sweep over Winterset Sept. 10 in Huxley.

The Bombers opened the match with an impressive 25-15 win. They won a 25-21 battle in the second set and then closed out the Huskies with a dominant 25-14 victory.

Ballard had a strong .417 kill-efficiency rate with 30 kills and just five errors in 60 attacks. They also overcame a poor .676 serving rate (46 of 68) by picking up 14 aces.

Hanna Larsen led Ballard in kills with eight and Brooke Mallon tacked on six. Mallon also had six blocks and went 17 of 21 serving with five aces.

Alanna Dubberke produced five kills and two solo blocks for Ballard in the victory. Meredith Ossian finished with four kills and Charcey Petersen dished out seven assists and went 11 of 15 serving with four aces
