HUXLEY – The Ballard volleyball team gave a good effort at the start and finish of its Raccoon River Conference match against Boone Oct. 1 in Huxley, but the Bombers were unable to prevent a loss at the hands of the Toreadors.
The Bombers were swept in three sets to fall to 3-14 overall and 2-3 in the RRC. Ballard was sluggish in the second set, losing by a 25-10 score, but the Bombers hung tough in the first and third sets, dropping both by a competitive 25-22 margin.
Ballard finished with 14 kills and six errors in 45 attacks for a .178 kill efficiency. The Bombers were strong defensively at the net with eight solo blocks and they went 53 of 56 serving with one ace.
Middle blocker Alanna Dubberke had five kills, one solo block, two digs and one ace for Ballard in the loss. Hannah Larsen contributed four kills and one solo block, Brooke Mallon had four solo blocks, four digs and two kills and Meredith Ossian finished with two kills, one solo block and a 12 of 12 serving effort.
Abby Carlin led the team in assists with 20 and she also went 13 of 13 serving. Charcey Petersen had five assists, four digs and an 8 of 8 serving performance; Sheridan Gealow had one kill and Rachel Bruns picked up one solo block for the Bombers.
