GARWIN — The Collins-Maxwell volleyball team continued its hot play to start the season by winning the GMG Invitational Saturday in Garwin.
The Spartans went 4-0 during the tournament to take first. The impressive showing kept Collins-Maxwell unbeaten on the season at 6-0.
Collins-Maxwell swept all four of its opponents at the GMG Invite. The Spartans downed Waterloo Christian (21-15, 21-10), GMG (21-10, 21-15) and Meskwaki twice — first in pool play (21-9, 21-8) and then in the championship match (25-10, 25-11).
The Spartans picked up seven aces on 38 serves and had 13 kills against eight errors in 42 attacks in the win over Waterloo Christian. Reagan Franzen had five kills, three digs, two assists and two aces; Gracie Cheville four kills and two digs; Josie Wierson two kills, blocks and digs apiece plus an ace and Brailyn Tankersley two blocks and one kill for Collins-Maxwell in the win.
Jillian Holst added five assists, two aces and one kill; Trinity Stover two aces, one assist and one dig and Hannah Caple four digs versus Waterloo Christian.
Collins-Maxwell was a stout 43 of 44 serving with 11 aces and tallied 11 kills against eight errors in 57 attacks against GMG. Caple produced 14 digs and six aces; Wierson five kills, two blocks, one dig and one ace; Cheville seven digs and four kills; Franzen five digs, three assists, two kills, two aces and one block, Holst seven assists, one block and one ace and Stover six digs and one ace.
In the first match with Meskwaki, the Spartans delivered 18 kills against just five errors in 52 attacks and went 30 of 40 serving with nine aces.
Cheville finished with eight kills and six digs; Holst nine assists, three aces two kills and two digs; Franzen four kills, six assists and three aces and Wierson four kills and one block in the pool play win over Meskwaki. Caple added six digs, Stover two aces, Tankersley one dig, Jaden Camp one dig and one ace and Brooke Christie one dig.
In the championship round win, Collins-Maxwell recorded 20 kills against only four errors in 56 attacks against Meskwaki. The Spartans also compiled 10 aces on 42 of 46 serving.
Cheville came up with seven kills, two digs, two aces and one block; Wierson six kills, two digs, one assist and one block; Holst eight assists, three kills, one dig and one ace and Caple eight digs and one ace. Franzen chipped in five digs, two kills and two assists; Stover five aces, two digs, one kill and one assist; Tankersley two blocks and Elise Robertson one kill and one assist.
WATERLOO — Collins-Maxwell had no trouble disposing of Waterloo Christian in its Iowa Star Conference opener Sept. 6 at Waterloo.
The Spartans swept the Regents with ease, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-8 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Collins-Maxwell had an impressive 15 aces on 89 of 96 serving. The Spartans also finished with 16 kills and 12 errors in 63 attacks.
Jillian Holst went a perfect 29 of 29 serving with five aces, Josie Wierson picked up four aces and Gracie Cheville added three for Collins-Maxwell. Holst also delivered nine assists, four digs and three kills; Wierson three kills, one dig and one block and Cheville five kills and four digs.
Reagan Franzen chipped in five assists, four kills, three digs and one ace; Hannah Caple three digs and one ace; Brailyn Tankersley three digs and one block and Trinity Stover one kill, dig and ace apiece.
